This course will explore German Cinema and beyond in the films of Director, Writer, Producers Fritz Lang and Wim Wenders from the 1920s to the present day. We will consider Films like Langs Dr. Marbuse the Gambler, Metropolis, Woman in the Window and Scarlet Street compared and contrasted with films like Wenders Alice in the Cities, The American Friend, Wings of Desire, Paris Texas, and the Buena Vista Social Club.We will consider Fiction and Documentary, themes of Power, Guilt and Personal Responsibility in the context of the changing German, US and International film Industries from German Cinema in the 1920s to New German Cinema in the 70s and changes in Hollywood and European Independents over a Century of Cinema
