Restorative yoga embodies the act of undoing, being rather than doing and its practice stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system the rest and digest part of our nervous system. When practised regularly it can reduce stress, relieve anxiety and bring relief to common aches and pains. The effects can be felt for a number days after class, bringing a quiet, uncluttered mind with improved concentration and awareness. Restorative yoga is mainly practised lying down - poses are held for up to 5 minutes or more while your body and limbs are supported by props - such bolsters and blankets. This allows you to surrender to the shape of the pose, your body will release gently through passive stretching. Your teacher will guide you through simple breath awareness techniques leaving you feeling centred and present, with a renewed sense of well-being: refreshed, relaxed and grounded.These restorative practices are based on the teachings of B.K.S.
