If you already have good Clothesmaking skills and want to learn more about how patterns are constructed and can be adapted, then this introductory course is perfect for you- and will introduce you to the key methods of both traditional & freehand drafting techniques. You will learn the basics of personalised block making using your own accurate body measurements to draft one or more personalised blocks, such as a skirt, bodice & trouser. Working at your own pace, you will then make a pattern & a calico toile (rough sample garment), accurately fit the toile to your body, and make any additional alterations as needed. You will be aiming to complete a personalised block, a block pattern, a correctly fitted toile, and to transfer your personal finished draft onto card- all of which will be your basis for creating your own perfectly fitting garments. Freehand pattern cutting is an alternative method of creating garment patterns directly onto either fabric or paper, without using traditionally pre-drafted patterns or commercial pattern templates. It relies on the skill & experience of the designer to visualise & draft the pattern pieces by hand, based on specific body measurements.
