This inclusive sewing course is for adults living with or recovering from mental health conditions. We welcome learners of all abilities and experience levels. Through sewing, mending, upcycling and garment construction, you will develop practical skills while supporting your mental wellbeing in a safe, supportive and non-competitive environment. Sessions encourage creativity, social interaction, confidence building and mindfulness. You can work at your own pace with opportunities to share ideas, support one another and celebrate achievements. Each session includes a structured mindfulness or wellbeing activity to promote relaxation, focus and emotional wellbeing. You will build a portfolio of samples, photographs, notes and completed projects, demonstrating their progress throughout the three terms. In term 3 you will continue more independent project work. Depending on ability and confidence, you may choose to create a simple garment or accessory using a commercial sewing pattern. Emphasis is placed on planning, measuring, cutting, assembling and finishing projects while developing greater independence and creative confidence. You will continue to use sewing as a tool for wellbeing, self-expression and social connection.
