This 11-week course is for adults with learning difficulties and health conditions including mobility issues. During the course you will explore basic chair assisted yoga postures focused on range of motion, improving strength, flexibility and mobility, with a segment of assisted standing poses to improve balance and develop concentration. You will use breathing techniques and relaxation to reduce symptoms of anxiety and stress, promoting a calm state of mind which can often be used as a coping mechanism when reducing feelings of frustration or overwhelm. There is a focus on motor skills development and incorporating cognitive exercises through various activities and games encouraging socialisation and team work. This course combines all aspects of Hatha yoga adapted to a chair assisted class, and is perfect for those with mobility issues or looking for gentle exercises. The sessions also offer elements of sensory stimulation (taste, smell, touch, sound and sight), arts and crafts, musical instruments and games, feelings charts and open group discussions to develop emotional awareness.
